Seeds of knowledge: paving the way to integrated historical and conservation science research

Abstract Recognition of the importance protecting agrobiodiversity is not a new phenomenon. Crossing different sciences often pinpointed as relevant contributor to its successful protection. This paper proposes an integrated research approach in history and conservation science by opening paths for using written historical sources biodiversity inventories. It discusses some conceptual methodological challenges raised regarding diversity distribution wild cultivated edible plants. The possibilities compiling plant lists that can be into databases are also explored. Arguing interdisciplinarity transdisciplinarity crucial, enabling wide range vernacular from several centuries cross-referenced, aims draw attention their deepening knowledge about past patterns.
